EVERYONE is invited to attend First Friday in Downtown York, presented by WellSpan Health!

First Friday is a celebration of Downtown shops, restaurants, cultural venues, and nightlife hotspots. From 5:00PM – 9:00PM, downtown shops and restaurants host special events, offer refreshments & promotions, and sponsor live entertainment.

First Friday Activities in the Market District:
Appell Center for the Performing Arts (50 North George Street)
Join the Appell Center for their Free First Friday Family Film, Mr. Popper’s Penguins! The life of a businessman begins to change after he inherits six penguins, and as he transforms his apartment into a winter wonderland, his professional side starts to unravel. Admission is free thanks to OSS Health. Film starts at 6:30PM

Jazz in the City
Whether you are a fan of Jazz music or love music of all kinds don’t miss an opportunity to witness the upcoming Jazz music series at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts.

Under the artistic direction of Jeff Stabley, Jazz in the City will welcome regional musicians each month during First Friday festivities from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Studio at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. January’s line up will include Chris Bacas (York native) on the Saxophone, Andy Roberts on the Keyboard, Nathan Pence on the Bass, and Jeff Stabley on the Drums.

Elks Lodge #213 – York, PA (223 North George Street)
Start out the New Year at York Elks Lodge for January’s First Friday. From 7-11 pm. Rumor Has It will be playing over 5 decades of your favorite dance party music. This band fills the lodge so call to reserve your table! $10 cover. Ring the buzzer at the front door to be admitted. Dinner is available from 5-9 pm. Non-members – enter the free drawing for a chance to win a $25 Lodge Gift Certificate. Must be present to win. See you at the Lodge!

Opening reception for “Rita Whitney : Life Cycle – a journey of new works.” Rita will be exhibiting a collection of new work made over the past year and a half, through a series of major life events, culminating in the birth of her first child, Isabella Catherine. Opening is from 5:00PM – 8:00PM.

Creative York (10 North Beaver Street)
Special guest Bella Thomas from the Panther Abandoned Art project. Panther Abandoned Art is a student based Art organization Bella Thomas began in 5th grade that spreads kindness through hidden art in schools. Panther Abandoned Art is all-inclusive, anyone can participate by drawing, coloring, writing poetry the sky is the limit! A variety of materials will be provided for students of all ages to come create, tag and take their positive art pieces to abandon in their very own school. We will also have a sign-up sheet at the event for students who would like to become Panther Abandoned Art Ambassadors! Plus there will be a special gift for the first 25 participants! Free and open to the public.

Studio 117 will feature one of their current artists performing throwback songs throughout the night! Studio staff will be providing refreshments, and studio tours will be available.

The Parliament Arts Organization (116 East King Street)
Join us for the opening reception of our first show of 2018 – Eyes on the World.The world we live in is a complicated place filled with tragic events, natural disasters, social issues, and complex political topics. Much of the world’s greatest art has come out of a reaction to current events. We’ve asked artists to create and submit work inspired by a recent event. Food and drinks available.
